You might like to look up YOUR ESSENCE, MARTYR: PAKISTANI ELEGIES, a book of translations from the 1970s Urdu poetry edited by Alamgir Hashmi. It makes available an important body of work generally not seen before, and also shows up the great strength of the Pakistani dissident literary tradition. Studying the literary and cultural traditions of South Asia in relation to your topic, it seems to me, would be critical.
The book I have mentioned above is available from http://www.saeedbookbank.com sales@saeedbookbank.com OR sbb@pes.comsats.net.pk, or directly from the publishers, Plainview Imprint, plainviewimprint@yahoo.com.
