the end of street life as we know it-

more people are talking on their cell phones than looking at you.

& on indian elections- if the multi party system generates a truly flexible 4th, 5th etc front of decentralizing stakeholders, more power to democracy- but need to keep the "UPSC's" cry for centralized, opaque, unaccountable bureacrazy in the name of "patirot stability" at bay. this is a true test for the continued generativity & innovativeness & agility& & resilience etc of democrazy-

but of course there is no secure reason why large parts of india, esp in the maoist East will not morph in the coming decade(s) to a permanent kashmir/west bank intergenerational-internationalist cycle of violence, by & against state & militias (state & others')

  1. update, jan 2010: end of cafes too as social spaces- people in solitude commune with their laptops, are chuckled by chats continents away not looking up ever to people around them. even couples come to be together apart. only granmas still laugh & look at cakes but no one is there to meet their eye.
